Wells Fargo

It is one of the most important multinational institutions in the United States and the world. It offers a wide variety of banking, financial, mortgage, asset management, insurance, and many more services to its personal and business clients.

History

The history of this prestigious bank goes back many years, especially in 1852. In that year, Wells Fargo & Co. was created by its founders, Henry Wells and William Fargo. At that time, the entity offered services for buying, selling, and transporting gold. In 1858, it cooperated in the creation of Overland Mail Company.

In 1905, it joined with the National Bank of Nevada to form the National Bank of Nevada of Wells Fargo. The Government of the United States took control of the Wells Fargo express company by nationalizing it as the US Express Railroad Agency. During that time, the institution worked as a commercial bank and was necessary for the country’s economy during World War II.

In 1923, Wells Fargo Bank & Union Trust Company was created through the merger of Union Trust Company with Wells Fargo Nevada. Subsequently, the name was changed to Wells Fargo Bank. To continue growing as an institution, it joined with the American Trust Company to form the Wells Fargo Bank American Trust Company. Through other mergers, in 1969, the holding company Wells Fargo & Company was created.

Wells Fargo expanded through many acquisitions such as Crocker National Corporation, Barclays Bank of California, First Interstate Bancorp, National Bank of Alaska, First Security Corporation, Pleasure Sierra Bank, and more. One of the most important purchases it made was Wachovia Corporation in 2008.
