OCBC Bank

It is one of the five largest multinational entities in Singapore in charge of offering financial and banking services. It is one of the banks with the best rating and security in the world. It provides, among some services, corporate, private, investment and retail banking.

History

In 1932, the bank was born after the Great Depression through the merger and consolidation of 3 important banks of that time. Those banks were Chinese Commercial Bank Limited (created in 1912), Ho Hong Bank Limited (created in 1917), and Oversea-Chinese Bank Limited (created in 1919). During those years, the economic situation of all people was difficult. For that reason, the bank decided to provide financial solutions to customers for their daily needs.

In the beginning, the bank prospered and overgrew thanks to the mandate of Dato Lee Kong Chian, Tan Sri Tan Chin Tuan, and Lee Choon Seng. In the 1950s, it was already the only bank with branches in various parts of China. Also, it had established a system in which customers could withdraw and deposit money at night. In 1958, a mobile bank was created for all those people who lived in the suburbs, and two years later, they were the first to establish an Asian dollar market.

OCBC Bank innovated and incorporated new products and services, becoming the most significant banking entity in Singapore. In 1872, it bought Four Seas Communications Bank (the oldest bank in Singapore). A few years later, OCBC Bank joins OCBC Finance to create a stronger organization. The bank had grown more and more with the incorporation of new institutions such as Bank of Singapore, Keppel Capital Holdings, and many others. One of the most important acquisitions was Wing Hang Bank.
