Nordea Bank

Nordea is an institution designed to offer retail, corporate, asset management, and specifically, financial banking products and services. It carries out its activities in northern Europe.

History

The creation of this bank dates back many years ago. Throughout history, since 1820, many entities wanted to establish a powerful Nordic banking institution. That is why approximately 300 banks in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland) played an important role. Those 300 banks were reduced due to the merger of these institutions until the 1990s, where only four remained.

The remaining four institutions were Nordbanken (Sweden), Kreditkassen (Norway), Unibank (Denmark), and Merita Bank (Finland). Some of these banks emerged from the union with other banks in their respective countries. With the merger of Uplandsbanken and Sundsvallsbanken in 1986, Nordbanken was created. Unibank emerged from the merger of Andelsbanken, Privatbanken, and Sparekassen SDS in 1990. Merita Bank was the union of the Svecoman Union Bank of Finland and the Fennoman National Share Bank in 1995.

During the life of each company, they were responsible for acquiring banking entities, and between 2000 and 2001, Nordbanken, Kreditkassen, Unibank, and Merita Bank joined together, resulting in the Nordea banking group Nordea.

Once created, they began with the mission of expanding to other countries. Therefore, in subsequent years, they made the purchase of LG Petro Bank in Poland, Kredyt Bank SA in Lithuania, and other banks. In this way, it became a significant recognized group in many countries, including Latin America.

In 2007, he was scammed through online phishing, which is a duplicate identity technique. This technical cheat was carried out by sending emails to the company’s employees. They took away from the company a significant amount of money ranging between 1.1 million dollars. In the end, Nordea had to reimburse customers who had been affected by this theft.
