ING Group

ING Group is a Dutch company that handles different operations in more than 40 countries. It offers services in the area of Insurance, Investments, and commercial and retail banking. ING stands for Internationale Nederlanden Groep.

History

The creation of this company was based on the union of two companies at that time. Those companies were the Rijkspostspaarbank, created by the Dutch government in 1881, and subsequently merged with the NMB bank to form the NMB Postbank Groepis. He was in charge of banking services. The other, Nationale-Nederlanden (NN), was created by the union of the Netherlands Fire Insurance Company of 1845 and the National Life Insurance Bank (Founded in 1863). He was in charge of insurance services.

These two great companies in charge of banking and insurance joined in 1991 to establish ING Group. Like all institutions, it wanted to overgrow and be one of the largest banking entities in the country and expand into other countries. To achieve that, it began acquiring various organizations that would help in that goal from 1994 to 2007. Some of those companies were Barings, Parcom, BHF-Bank of Germany, Bank Brussels Lambert, Allianz Canada, and others.

Almost all commercial and banking entities were victims of the financial crisis of 2008. ING Group was no exception. To overcome it, the Dutch government provided him with an amount of money with the condition of selling properties that it had in several countries of the world.
