History
It was founded in 1938 under the name Denizcilik Bankası and belonged to the state. It emerged to help stabilize the country’s maritime industry. After many years of activity, in 1992, it merged with Emlakbank. Five years later, it was acquired by Zorlu Holding. Shortly after, it changed the location of its headquarters to Karaköy and began establishing new branches outside of Istanbul. In 2002, it acquired Tarişbank and set its new headquarters in Esentepe. It began to internationalize by buying ships that sailed to Russia, Austria, and Cyprus. In 2006, DenizBank was acquired by Dexia, and in 2012, it was purchased by Sberbank. In 2019, Emirates NBD completed the purchase of the bank.
