Citigroup

It is one of the four largest financial banking companies in the United States. It offers clients, companies, and corporations an important range of commercial, corporate, consumer, and investment banking services.

History

The history of this great bank dates back to 1812 with the creation of The Bank of the City of New York. It was founded due to the need for merchants to have a savings system. Later, in 1865, it changed its name to The National City Bank of New York. Little by little, it became the most important bank in the United States.

In 1914, it opened its first branch abroad, specifically, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Four years later, it acquired the International Banking Corporation. It was already an institution known worldwide and was a pioneer in offering various types of services.

It changed its name to The First National City Bank of New York in 1955 and seven years later, to First National City Bank. It began to introduce credit cards in the country, and it was when it presented its MasterCard in 1967. That same year, it was established as Citicorp (First National City Corporation), and that name was officially used as of 1974. Thus, it began to be called Citibank

After 1993, a group called Travelers Inc was created through several mergers. That group joined Citicorp, forming Citigroup Inc, a powerful banking company in the United States and the world.
