BNP Paribas

It is a French bank of great importance in the country and is one of the largest in the world that offers its services in a large number of countries. It provides financial, consumer, corporate, and investment banking products and services.

The beginnings of the bank date back to 1822 when Société Générale de Belgique was created. Later, in 1848, a financial crisis occurred in France. From that event, the Government created the Comptoir National d’Escompte de Paris (CNEP) and the Comptoir National d’Escompte de Mulhouse.

The CNEP became the foreign French Bank when it was established in Asia by opening offices in Shanghai and Calcutta. In 1872, the bankers of that time founded the Bank of Paris and the Netherlands (Paribas) to obtain higher financial outside and acquire companies in the future.

In 1913, Banque Nationale de Crédit (BNC) originated from Comptoir d’escompte de Mulhouse. The economic problems left by the war caused BNC to collapse in 1932. That same year, the bank re-emerged under the name of Banque Nationale pour le Commerce et l’Industrie (BNCI).

From that, to consolidate the bank’s economic and financial bases, CNEP and BNCI joined and formed the BNP (Banque Nationale de Paris) in 1966. This institution became the most relevant in the country and began to expand internationally. That same year Compagnie Bancaire and Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas merged and created an entity under the name of Paribas.

In 2000, BNP Y Paribas began working together to create the BNP Paribas Group capable of facing any financial situation.
