It is a bank established in Egypt by Talaat Pasha Harb. It is responsible for offering operations in the banking and financial sector throughout the country. It owns shares in 158 companies covering textile, insurance, transportation, entertainment, aviation and film sectors.

It was the first Egyptian-owned bank founded in 1920 by Mohamed Talaat Harb Pasha. In 1926, it opened its first international office in France and began to expand outside the country. It had a fall in the late 1930s but then could be reorganized again. In 1960, banks in Egypt were nationalized, including Banque Misr. It acquired Nahda Arabian Bank in Libya in 1963 and Banque de Port-Said in 1971. In 1995, it merged with Bank of Alexandria, National Bank of Egypt, Banque du Caire and Kato Aromatics to form Cairo International Bank in Uganda. In 2004, it merged with Misr Exterior Bank.
