Banco de Chile

It is a Chilean bank that exercises its banking operations in much of the country. It is responsible for offering insurance and financial services to people and small, medium and large companies.

The history of the bank began when Banco de Valparaíso was created in 1855, Banco Nacional de Chile in 1865 and Banco Agrícola in 1868. Those three banking institutions merged to form Banco de Chile in 1893 and began operating the following year. It had problems during the economic crisis of 1929 but was able to solve the financial issues. Since 1940, it started to buy shares of other critical commercial institutions of that time to consolidate even more. After several changes, it was reprivatized in 1975. In 1982, it expanded globally in the United States and later, in the 1990s, in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. The Luksic Group took control of the bank in 2001. In 2002, it merged with Banco Edwards Citi and then with Citibank Chile in 2007.
